Costa Rica - A hike in the Corcovado National Park

I couldn't contain my excitement during my first hike in Costa Rica (see proof below). After arriving at the airport in San Jose, we drove a good five hours to the Corcovado National Park. Unfortunately, our hike to Carate was cancelled due to the hurricane that had hit the country in the week prior to our arrival. Luckily, we were still able to go to Matapalo, where we hiked for hours in the (what I call) jungle. We saw a variety of wildlife, including four types of monkeys (we almost got attacked by a pack), weird looking crabs, a bunch of colorful birds, and cute little coatis (first picture).
We didn't have much luck with the weather that day. The sky was grey and we had light rain during our entire hike. But who cares? The rain completely let my inner Indiana Jones out ; it made me feel like nothing could stop me. I could feel my soul longing for adventure, and I knew that this was only the beginning of one, incredible trip. We stayed in Puerto Jimenez for the night (recommended as most tour companies are located there) at the Corcovado Wild Hostel. This small town is reachable by driving an hour on a very winding dirt road (with zero visibility at night) so a good, solid 4x4 car is absolutely recommended (and driving into the park is even worse). If you want an amazing hike with an amazing guide, contact Kathya from Surcos tours (ksurcostours@gmail.com). Our tour included just us and the guide (who was honestly amazing), and lasted from 5:30 am to 2:00 pm (70$ p.p). If you come by car, rent a 4x4, and definitely bring waterproof hiking shoes (if you come during the wet season like we did).
